Complex Networks seeks a motivated and innovative Coordinator of Rights & Clearances (Music Specialist) to join our legal and business affairs group. Working with the Manager of Rights & Clearances, this position will assist editorial and branded entertainment teams.  In addition, this position will provide administrative support for the SVP, Business and Legal Affairs on an as needed basis. The ideal candidate will be outspoken, an independent decision-maker comfortable with making judgment calls, and an expert in flexibility and compromise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance in matters of copyright and fair use across editorial content, video, and commercial projects.
  • Facilitate acquisition of third-party music assets for use across editorial brands, branded entertainment, and video production.
  • Coordinate the trafficking, review, and organization of music licenses and related music documentation for Complex Networks
  • Research on various rights and ownership issues, best practice developments, and specific projects as they arise.
  • Support the Manager, Rights, and Clearances in the development, maintenance, and management of music administration systems.
  • Assist the Manager of Rights, & Clearances in maintaining records of all direct performance rights secured by Complex Networks for deals with performing rights organizations.
  • Field internal and external inquiries relating to music rights in network productions and content for all third party songs cleared.
  • Prepare Accounts Payable paperwork and & track payments, handle all stale-date check issues.
  • Prepare and distribute reporting for music usage, payments and compliance for Complex Networks.
  • Maintain library of music cue sheets, as well as the distribution and handling of all third party cue sheet requests.
  •  Update departmental database with song and license fee information for all third-party songs cleared.
  • Report to producers license fees requested by publishers, labels and other music licensors.
  • Screen programming ensuring that all third party licensed music has been used correctly, check music cue sheet accuracy and distribute final music cue sheets.
  • Provide administrative support as requested for the SVP, Business and Legal Affairs (e.g. scheduling, expense reporting)



We’re looking for a candidate with prior music clearance experience who is ready for a challenge. We think our ideal candidate may have these qualifications:

  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years working with music rights and clearances, music publishing, publishing administration, music supervision and/or music copyright production, or other relevant experience.
  • Exposure to music licensing and clearances for both editorial and commercial production.
  • Collaborative mindset, coupled with demonstrated capability and for independent decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and form trusted relationships with persons who may not have a thorough understanding of the music rights clearance process.
  • Strong desire to learn, a driving curiosity, and the ability to take new tasks in stride.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to turn around assignments quickly while juggling several on-going projects.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, methodical analysis of complex situations, and dedication to the quality of work product.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative, flexible, enthusiastic and innovative team player looking for a challenge.
  • Knowledge of both Mac and PC operating systems required; including proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access.
