The Complex Business & Legal Affairs team is seeking a senior Attorney to negotiate, draft and manage various agreements in support of the acquisition, production, and distribution of video programming as well as to provide day-to-day support in a variety of general business issues emerging in a start-up media enterprise.  This attorney will work closely with Los Angeles & New York-based colleagues and will report into Complex’s SVP, Business & Legal Affairs, Chief Legal Officer.


The Attorney must have substantive transactional experience from a respected law practice, studio or television network and be able to apply the strategic negotiation and drafting skills acquired in support of a variety of practice areas.  The individual must be able to work independently, multi-task under pressure, manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly and have the ability to independently exercise sound judgment, make sound decisions, and perform under minimal supervision on a daily basis.



  • Negotiate and draft all development and production agreements for films, series and other original content productions across all media platforms (e.g., rights acquisition, talent agreements, producer agreements, license agreements, co-finance agreements, guild and union agreements and other agreements in connection with the development and production of original content).
  • Manage other general business and legal affairs matters typically required of a studio and/or a network.
  • Manage and provide direction to junior attorneys and non-attorney Business and Legal Affairs staff
  • Counsel on a wide variety of transactional matters, including merchandise, live events, intellectual property, music, employment, and performing other day-to-day business and legal affairs-related tasks as needed.



  • JD from a respected law school
  • Active member of New York Bar
  • 5 – 7 years of business/legal affairs experience in a network, studio, entertainment law firm or production company environment
  • A strong background in the area of copyright law (US and foreign) and intellectual property matters
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Thorough understanding of current market licensing & distribution terms
  • Self-reliant and highly organized, with the ability to pay high attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle high volume of agreements with accurate execution
